What
fascinates me is people’s faith – in
the mind’s need to create mythology explaining a messy universe
in which truth is a perception born in the savage heart, made righteous
by a mind that wishes to transcend savagery. Many great narratives
throughout man’s history have eloquently captured this struggle
between hope and despair, sacred and profane. I invite all manner of
characters and ideas into my canvases –neighbors, strangers,
deities, ghosts – and ask them to help me create new stories
that both engage history and question the culture that we are in the
process of building today. |
