Mychal
Mitchell and Edward Bailey have crafted their distinctive “Iona” books together for over eleven
years. Mychal started the business in 1994, inspired by a bookbinder
with whom she studied in Venice, Italy. Now, Mychal and Edy create
a wide range of writing journals and photo albums in their east-side
studio. They begin by selecting from the finest heavy-gauge surplus
leathers and acid-free (archival) papers available. Pages are all hand
torn to size, carefully folded and arranged, then hand-stitched into
leather with bee’s-waxed hemp twine. This year the paintings
of “Outsider artist” Cherie Weaver grace their walls. |
