A native of Austin, Hillary McMahan
earned an M.F.A. in painting and drawing from Louisiana State University
in 2002.
She has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Louisiana
in Lafayette, and has been awarded residencies at Vermont Studio Center
and Studios Midwest. Her work was recently included in New Texas Talent
at Dallas’s Craighead-Green Gallery. Lately I have been working
on drawings that involve animals but are intended to suggest human
desire and dilemmas. The drawings often represent emotional states
that I have experienced or situations I have felt myself to be in.
They are intended to be troubling but not without wit. I hope that
a viewer may experience some amusement and/or relief through the recognition
of his or her own anxieties and discomforts. |
