Expansion, as an activity that is precise, unstable,
and indispensable, is the heart of my painting practice. Manifest recently
in panels whose many rich, lurid, layered images weave to assemble
themselves together, figure and ground equally emphasized, the technical
and imagistic aspects of the paintings merge, allowing an all over
focus that is not dependent on repetition. Also present is the simultaneous
regard and disregard for the image as the subject. A wish for the image
to be subsumed into the entire painting, analogous to a rolling boil
where things appear, dissappear, and rearrange themselves, in mutable
revelations, assertions and consumptions. Watch out for PERSISTENT
CODES, an exhibition of painting with Adreon Henry, April of 2006,
at the Dougherty Art Center. |
