I make colorful hand-stitched portraits, hand-stitched landscapes, and 3-dimensional abstract constructions from repurposed papers. I developed my own style of stitch work—influenced by the impressionist paintings of Vincent van Gogh—that I combine with traditional embroidery learned from my great-grandmother. This year, I am investigating the idea of portraits stitched in a style similar to Rembrandt’s etchings. During E.A.S.T., I will have on display and for sale: my study-in-thread of Rembrandt’s 1630 self-portrait etching, several hand-stitched portraits and landscapes, and several paper constructions. I will be working on a new stitching, based upon what I learned while stitching the Rembrandt etching.
