Artists & Studios are where the creativity begins. For many of these spaces, this is the only time during the year that you can get a rare glimpse into the process, mind and inspiration of the artist. Exhibitions are established galleries, theaters, and other art spaces that exhibit and support the arts year-round.

NOV 16-17 + 23-24
Happenings are art-related events that occur at various times throughout the tour. Happenings include an eclectic mix of out-of-the-box events, projects, art competitions, pop-up venues, traveling performances, creative programming, art parties, site-specific projects, and more. The catalog and website will include specific information and times for all Happenings, so be sure to take some time and explore all of the myriad things that this category has to offer.

NOV 16-24
Select Events are a variety of different projects done in partnership with Big Medium. Some events are put on by groups to provide different levels of support for EAST, others Big Medium has chosen to spotlight due to their dedication to benefit our community, and some...are just plain fun.

Big Medium is a non-profit 501(c)(3) arts organization based in Austin, Texas, whose mission is to support the visual arts and artists in Texas. Big Medium proudly produces the East Austin Studio Tour, West Austin Studio Tour and the Texas Biennial, as well as exhibiting innovative contemporary gallery programming in the Big Medium Galleries, providing affordable studio space for artists, and seeking opportunities with various arts organizations and artists to initiate and support unique and creative projects.

For over 10 years, and in more ways than one, Big Medium off of Bolm Road was a home: made by artists and sustained by artists, loose-reigned, built from scratch, and it continues to transform and flourish with a constant flux of fresh minds and ideas. Last spring, Big Medium expanded to the newly renovated Canopy complex at 916 Springdale Road, enabling us to offer a broader variety of studio, exhibition, and event spaces to Austin’s ever-growing creative community. The new space and programming is reflective of Big Medium’s ambition to see the arts continue to grow and thrive in Austin.
