John Mulvany is an artist originally from Ireland who has been living and working in Austin for the last seven years. He is a founding member and editor of Cantanker magazine which covers the burgeoning art scene in Austin. He lives and works in East Austin.
“ My recent work concerns the enduring power of religious belief and how art through the centuries has facilitated and reinforced belief. In my paintings I try to explore ideas of dogma, superstition and fundamentalism in religion and politics using images from the past juxtaposed with contemporary settings.”
