Chris Chappell has lived
his whole life in Austin, after a brief stint to study art for
a few years in Atlanta, Georgia. He lives
with his wife, three children, dog, cat and rabbit, and the family
continues to grow exponentially, this year alone he has added another
cat and a blind dog to make sure his homelife does not stagnate.
Chris’ work has evolved over the years, growing from an intense
period of painting toilets to imagined landscapes inspired by the
boxy and unattractive architecture of the past thirty years. His
paintings have shifted from the mazes of apartment complexes and
repeating surburban developments to focus on a new frontier: the
human figure. As one of the founding members of the Austin Figurative
Project, Chris has spent the last year studying the human form and
continuing to make and break rules of painting in an effort to capture
the essence of life that only the combination of turpentine and paint
can achieve.
