I started Bridge Street
Design with the idea of making good design just a little bit three-dimensional—stamping
a logo or a bit of text into clay and seeing what happens. Maybe
making the tiles
will create an interesting new texture, a new visual pattern. Something
to please our tactile selves.
My interest in creating stamps and surface texture began when I discovered
letterpress, and the tiles are really an extension of that. I create
the designs in photoshop or illustrator and then have a thick letterpress
plate made. This is what I stamp into the clay. I try to find glazes
that look weathered and old, that will show off the dimensional pattern
of the tile. All the tiles are high-fired stoneware—perfect
for a backsplash, an outdoor shower, a retail space; indoors or outdoors.
